ABOUT YELLEB
YelleB is a contemporary dance ensemble operating as a not-for-profit organization in New York. Through a continuous creative process, performances, educational programs and collaboration with diverse artists and communities, Yelleb promotes awareness and dialogue that inspires personal, and therefore communal well-being. YelleB seeks to establish a symbiotic relationship between performance and educational outreach.
ARTISTIC STATEMENT
While our work is based in subject matters that are sincere and personal to the artists, YelleB aspires to create a high quality performance art that moves individual audience members to reflect on his/her own experiences and spark dialogues with others in the community.
I am fascinated by instinctual movement; the choreography of natural existence, the ways that reactions, desires, thoughts, compulsions, and space manipulate one’s physicality. Moments that evoke such movement create the space where a new work begins. This space is a nourishing landscape for exploration and collaborative endeavors informed by a variety of disciplines. I encourage my dancers to ask and answer the question ‘What initiates movement?’ This process-oriented experience provides us with opportunities to develop untapped abilities and newfound physical awareness. This embracing and provocative raw movement, presented in a performance atmosphere, elevates the sense of immediacy and allows my work to be technically challenging and emotionally transcending for both the performers and the audience.
YelleB provides a unique, experiential training that retunes, reveals and redefines the body/mind connection for our dancers, participants, collaborators and the audience.
YELLEBOLOGY
In addition to performances, YelleB conducts post-performance discussions, innovative movement classes and workshops for dancers as well as non-dancers. YelleB’s educational programs offer a blend of physical, intellectual, and artistic activities, which provide interactive experiences designed to introduce and expose new audiences to the art of dance, and to enhance self-awareness, communication, and self-expression.
